Private Investigator FAQ
Answers to the most common questions from our South Florida clients.
General Questions
Is it legal to hire a private investigator in Florida?+
Yes. Hiring a licensed private investigator is completely legal in Florida. Omni Investigations holds a Florida Private Investigative Agency License and operates fully within Florida law (Chapter 493, Florida Statutes). All investigation methods we use are legal and ethical.
How much does a private investigator cost in Florida?+
Most PI services in Florida range from $75–$150 per hour for surveillance-based work. Flat-fee services like background checks and asset searches typically range from $150–$600 depending on depth and complexity. We provide a clear, transparent quote during your free consultation with no hidden fees.
How do I know if my case warrants hiring a private investigator?+
If you need documented, legal evidence to support a personal, legal, or business decision — and gathering it yourself risks your safety, legal standing, or the integrity of the evidence — then a licensed PI is the right choice. We offer free consultations so you can discuss your situation before committing.
Will you take any case?+
No. We take on cases that are legal, ethical, and fall within the scope of licensed investigation services. We do not take cases that require illegal methods, and we reserve the right to decline engagements that don't meet our professional standards.
Do you serve areas outside of Hollywood, FL?+
Yes. We serve all of South Florida including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, Deerfield Beach, and all of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties. We also have nationwide and international capability.
Personal Investigation Questions
Will my spouse find out I hired a private investigator?+
No — not from us. Discretion is our most important commitment. Our investigators are trained in covert surveillance and take every precaution to avoid detection. We also advise clients on how to behave normally during the investigation.
Can evidence from an infidelity investigation be used in a Florida divorce?+
Florida is a no-fault divorce state, so infidelity is not required to file. However, documented evidence of infidelity may be relevant to alimony determinations, asset division, and child custody proceedings. We recommend consulting your attorney about how to best use any evidence we gather.
How long does a surveillance investigation take?+
Most surveillance cases produce meaningful results within 3–7 days. The timeline depends on your spouse's schedule, how predictable their behavior is, and how quickly observable evidence presents itself. We'll give you a realistic estimate during your free consultation.
Can you help with a child custody case?+
Yes. We regularly support Florida family law cases with surveillance, background investigations, and court-ready documentation.
What is skip tracing?+
Skip tracing is the process of locating a person who is missing, avoiding contact, or whose whereabouts are unknown — using legal database searches, public records, and field investigation. We locate debtors, witnesses, heirs, and missing individuals.

Do you work with attorneys?+
